About this deal

Sick of an administration that puts football before female health, the girls confront a world that shrugs—or worse, squirms—at the thought of a menstruation revolution. Additionally, getting periods can trigger dysphoria for some trans people, adding additional stress and emotions onto the pile of period feelings.

She has served on Newbery, written for Horn Book, and has done other lovely little things that she'd love to tell you about but that she's sure you'd find more interesting to hear of in person. The story shows how important it is to talk about periods and to have proper support for those who menstruate, including making sanitary products readily available.Brit is a Jane Austen fan and a good student who keeps having to miss school due to horrible cramps. Beyond periods, it's also just a great friendship story about high school friends supporting each other and dealing with all the stuff that high school throws at you.

Her opinions are her own and do not reflect those of EPL, SLJ, or any of the other acronyms you might be able to name. Brit is the brainiac of the trio, warm-hearted and caring but burdened by a debilitating physical condition that she doesn’t understand. Good Guys and Bad get just deserts in the end, and Stanley gets plenty of opportunities to display pluck and valor in this rugged, engrossing adventure. But not all of them are as enthusiastic as their leader and, when she goes too far for the cause, their friendship is in jeopardy. It is this stigma around menstruation that makes those of us who have periods discuss it in private, only with each other, and only once we have established that friendship is safe.Maybe it’s because of the trans people in my life and my personal experiences, but I feel like in 2020, if trans people are not in the conversation in a more substantial way, it’s just disappointing. It sounds so empowering and important, and I love that it’s also funny and about girls helping girls. In children’s book publishing there’s a general rule out there regarding the age of characters in a book versus the readership. Parents need to know that Go with the Flow, a graphic novel by Lily Williams and Karen Schneemann, takes on the often taboo subjects of menstruation and "period activism" with heart, humor, and a maturity just right for young readers. The characters in this story each represent a different aspect faced by young girls facing their first period.
